Edwin

Edwin

The Chicago Hockey Initiative is excited to introduce Edwin, our most recent Microgrant recipient!  Edwin is an elementary student in the Belmont-Cragin neighborhood on Chicago’s West Side. Edwin is pictured with CHI volunteer interpreter Susan (seated) and CHI Co-Director of Development Steve (standing). Edwin’s Microgrant was fulfilled through the generous contributions of CHI corporate sponsor Capital One.

Edwin is a first-generation hockey player. He was introduced to the game by his teacher, Ms. Gaw, who wrote glowingly of Edwin in his application: “Edwin is a great listener and always tries his best. He is excited for hockey every day and to improve his skating skills. He also encourages his teammates to try their best. This was Edwin’s first year skating and he never gave up!”  The CHI is thrilled to support Edwin and his family as they navigate a new sport and discover the excitement that is so specific to the game of hockey. This is how we grow the game!

Additional thanks and appreciation:

  • The Chicago Blackhawks for hosting the youth hockey clinic at Riis Park where Edwin’s family encountered the CHI Microgrant application.
  • Schweigert Language Services and Susan, whose language skills allowed the CHI to communicate accurately with Edwin’s entire family.
  • Joe and Butch at Gunzo’s Hockey Headquarters for equipment fitting.
