The Chicago Hockey Initiative is excited to introduce our 36th Microgrant recipient – Joshua! Joshua is a middle school student from southwest suburban Chicago and the CHI is very happy to welcome him aboard! Joshua’s Microgrant was made possible through the generosity of our community partner, Move-tastic!

Joshua listed several reasons in his application why he enjoys the sport; “I enjoy playing with my friends. My family comes and watches me play. Hockey has given me confidence and it’s okay to make mistakes while playing.”  Friends, family, and growing self-confidence are certainly wonderful accompaniments to the game!  Joshua’s father wrote that hockey has taught Joshua “discipline, commitment, and dedication” in addition to “respect for his teammates, coaches, and anyone else he encounters off the ice.”  We couldn’t agree more; hockey has the potential to teach skills for life as well as the rink. Joshua’s coach, Coach Bosse, wrote that “Josh is the type of player we look to as an example for all of our kids.” That is about the best compliment a student-athlete could receive.

The CHI is proud to support student-athletes like Joshua throughout Chicagoland.  If you would like to support the CHI Microgrant Program, please feel free to donate directly, or attend the 2018 Chicago Hockey Initiative Bowling Classic on Apr. 28.
