The Chicago Hockey Initiative is so enthused to introduce our THREE most recent Microgrant recipients for 2017! Say hello to, from left to right, brothers, and sister Leonel, Judith, and Nahum, as well as their mother, Nancy.
Judith, Nahum, and Leonel hail from the Northwest Side neighborhood of Hermosa and attend a Chicago Public Schools magnet elementary school. The siblings first had the opportunity to experience the fun of ice hockey at a Chicago Blackhawks youth hockey clinic at Riis Park this past winter. This fall, all three siblings are enrolled in skating and/or hockey lessons at another Chicago Park District rink. Judith wrote in her Microgrant application that the thing she most enjoys about hockey is “Teamwork! I want to skate for a hockey team all year round. I love the skill of it and the discipline it takes to learn.” Nahum wants “to compete. To be part of a team and win and be fast!” Leonel says “It’s fun to play with friends in the cold.” The kids have pretty much nailed what it is to love this game!
The CHI has sincerely appreciated the opportunity to spend time with Judith, Nahum, and Leonel and assist the family’s participation in the great game of hockey. We are proud to grow the game in our hometown. These Microgrants were fulfilled through the support of our longtime sponsor, Move-tastic!
