The Chicago Hockey Initiative is enthused to introduce our 41st Microgrant recipient – say hello to Cris! Cris is a middle school student from the Southwest Side of Chicago and plays goalkeeper.
In his Microgrant application, Cris wrote that he enjoys hockey because “I like to meet new people and make new friends.” With respect to his choice of position, Cris added, “I see a lot of action at the net. I love playing goalie because it is worth the challenge.” What a positive way to look at the goaltending position, Cris! Cris’ father also appreciates what his son learns from hockey, including “playing on a team and respecting players and coaches.” Hockey also “teaches Cris how to prioritize school, hockey, and other activities.” The CHI loves to see school coming in just ahead of hockey on the priorities list. Coach Dave wieghs in that “Cris comes to the rink with a positive attitude and a winning mindset. He understands that wins don’t define you. How hard you play and how well you treat others is what matters.” What a thoughtful sentiment, Coach Dave! The CHI couldn’t agree more.
Have a great school year and a great hockey season, Cris!
