The Chicago Hockey Initiative is please to introduce our 42nd Microgrant recipient – JR! JR is an elementary student from Northwest Indiana and has great initials for playing hockey in Blackhawks country!
JR eloquently summarized what he finds most compelling about playing hockey: “I enjoy hockey because it lets me be part of a team. It keeps me active. But most of all, I strive to practice hard and score goals.” Goals, JR – they’re the best! JR’s mother is also appreciateive of the impact hockey has made on her son’s life, writing: “JR has become a well-rounded young man and I believe it is because of his love for hockey. The time and dedication he puts into the sports amazes me. Even being on the ice around five time each week, he continues to earn the highest honors in school.” The CHI appreciates nothing more than a student-athlete who can really handle their student obligations! Speaking of which, JR’s teacher, Ms. Nigh, offered her opinion that “JR is an exemplary student, both academically and socially. He is extremely kind and compassionate towards others. He goes out of his way to be helpful and show kindness without expecting praise or rewards.” Sounds like JR has already learned one of life’s most impactful lessons – it’s good to do good things. We at the CHI wholeheartedly concur!
