The Chicago Hockey Initiative is excited to introduce our 46th Microgrant recipient- Tommy! Tommy is a high school student from the southwest of suburbs of Chicago. Playing as a defenseman this season, he is pictured lining up for a faceoff with his teammates.
“The three things I enjoy most about hockey are the importance of working together as a team, the fast paced speed of the game, and the overall effort and competitiveness the game requires to succeed.” Tommy wrote that sentence in his Microgrant application, and the CHI was immediately impressed – this young man means business! Tommy’s mother is also impressed with the impact the game has had on her son: “Through hockey, Tommy has learned so many life skills. He is a great leader and a team player. He has learned to work hard for what he wants and help others.” Those are indeed great life skills! Tommy’s coach, Coach Dorich, wrote an incredibly glowing recommendation; here is the conclusion: “I fully recommend Tommy. He is a positive individual who will rise above and be a leader in our world for years to come.” Whoa. Doesn’t get any more real than that.
The CHI is happy to join Tommy’s team and we look forward to what he accomplishes on and off the ice in the future!
